    Snapshots pt1

I’m in the process of finally creating a proper photo gallery for my website with separate albums/galleries etc. That’s where I’ll start to put proper sets up, and put some more effort into projects I’ve started but never finished. I’m playing around with a couple different types of gallery software, but I’m not 100% keen on any yet. If anyone has some suggestion feel free to email me or post up here, it’d be very much appreciated.

Ok, this set of shots are just randoms from my most recent trip. I’m posting them up pretty roughly for the time being and will save the proper finished products for my new gallery when it comes to life.
Here are a few from Germany and Switzerland…

Olympus Trip 35: The 1 Cent Wonder

Well I just bought another film camera. This one was purchased for the exorbitant sum of 1 cent!

Yep, one cent, with a flash and a bag too. And when I won the auction the seller asked “So do you want to come and pick it up? Or should I post it?” um… I couldn’t find a 1 cent piece and it was located interstate so it was posted…
I took a quick photo of it you can see below. I also managed to find an original lens cover for it that was in the bag of accessories I bought a week or so ago, so that was a nice surprise too.

The camera has a great little multi coated 4 element D.Zuiko 40mm f2.8 lens that I’ve seen produce some brilliant results. It doesn’t use any batteries but has a solar-powered selenium light meter with an automatic mode and two shutter speeds (1/200 in auto mode and 1/40 for flash sync). Everything works perfectly on it, but I need to replace a light seal as the camera is pretty old. I think its one of the earlier models, they were made from 1967- 1984. Quite a long time.
I’ve already put a roll of film in it with the dodgy light seals just for fun. I wonder if any will turn out.

Yeah, it needs a clean too…

    Sydney Uni Art Installation

Well this might be a little different.

My father is studying a Master of Studio Art degree at Sydney Uni and this is his mid year installation (not final work)..
His work up until now has pursued more of a classical or modernist figurative focus with much of his work in bronze sculptures, however he is also a fantastic painter and illustrator. Some skills I wish I had inherited more.

I won’t attempt to explore the concept of this work in this format, but I figure at least from a purely aesthetic perspective they look quite striking.

I had never shot shot anything like this before, so it was bit of a learning experience in the lighting conditions. Photographing art work always has extra challenges as the act of photographing the work can present the piece in new context which may undermine or even develop the conceptual focus in a direction not originally intended by the artist. In this case though I’m just documenting.

    Olympus OM10 – A New Acquisition

Heres a quick picture of my new toy I picked up today for the massive sum of $11.

It’s an Olympus OM10 with manual adapter, plus all the accessories you can (and can’t) see in the photo, including a power winder, 2 flashes, a bag, a couple of sigma lenses and a Zuiko 50mm f/1.8. Oh and 3 normal compact film cameras that she had lying around. I’m pretty happy with it all 🙂 And yes it all works which is a plus. But I’ve still ordered a light seal kit and some new batteries for it (even though the old ones still worked).

The OM10 began manufacture in 1979 and is part of a “middle” range series of cameras in the OM system. The “top” range being the single digit models such as OM1, OM2, OM3 etc.

I cant wait to put some film through it and take some pictures!
