That missed shot
I’ve never really thought about it before, but if I had to, I’d guess I have a keeper rate of about 1 in 8. That is based on the fact I usually have at least 3 or 4 shots I’m happy with from a roll of 32. That said, it could be 1 in 5 or 1 in 6, it doesn’t matter. The point is we all have examples of that one missed shot; either it was framed wrong, the exposure was off or the subject was simply not interesting enough, for some reason it just didn’t work.
I was recently going through some holiday shots to sort out the keepers. At the end of the process though I couldn’t help but fee interested in some of the shots I’d messed up. I don’t know if it’s the tease of what could of been if only the camera was angled slightly differently or my timing was better, or it could of be the sense of mystery about what wasn’t captured just outside of frame. The fact is that for me they did have a sense of charm and in a way together formed their own narrative. Sure there’s nothing profound happening here, but I do believe this process can work as a reminder that there’s value in images that don’t fit a conventional view of what technically constitutes a quality photograph.

I’ll probably be adding more over time to the gallery located here.

More from Italy
Here are some more shots from Italy. I’m just trying to scan as much as humanly possible before me scanner packs it in. The quality isn’t brilliant, but after an overseas trip I have no money left for a fancy new negative scanner!
Taken with Neopan400 and Tri-x400 (some EI300).. I’m really liking Neopan at the moment. Maybe I’ve just fluked a development time/method that gives the results I want, but I can’t seem to work tri-x out at the moment. Oh, all were developed in Rodinal 1+50, but I think I managed to keep the grain down (even with bad scans).

Things with wheels in Italy
Ok I’ve just about finished developing my film from the holidays so I’ll start posting shots up here.
The title of this post says it all really. I kind if got on a mission to take photos of cars/bikes/etc one afternoon and this is what I came up with.

Snapshots pt2
Here are a few more random snapshots from Italy this time.
Wish I had more than 2 clips for drying negatives at the moment. It’ll take ages to get through my developing backlog.. -
Snapshots pt1
I’m in the process of finally creating a proper photo gallery for my website with separate albums/galleries etc. That’s where I’ll start to put proper sets up, and put some more effort into projects I’ve started but never finished. I’m playing around with a couple different types of gallery software, but I’m not 100% keen on any yet. If anyone has some suggestion feel free to email me or post up here, it’d be very much appreciated.
Ok, this set of shots are just randoms from my most recent trip. I’m posting them up pretty roughly for the time being and will save the proper finished products for my new gallery when it comes to life.
Here are a few from Germany and Switzerland…
