    Sydney Uni Art Installation

Well this might be a little different.

My father is studying a Master of Studio Art degree at Sydney Uni and this is his mid year installation (not final work)..
His work up until now has pursued more of a classical or modernist figurative focus with much of his work in bronze sculptures, however he is also a fantastic painter and illustrator. Some skills I wish I had inherited more.

I won’t attempt to explore the concept of this work in this format, but I figure at least from a purely aesthetic perspective they look quite striking.

I had never shot shot anything like this before, so it was bit of a learning experience in the lighting conditions. Photographing art work always has extra challenges as the act of photographing the work can present the piece in new context which may undermine or even develop the conceptual focus in a direction not originally intended by the artist. In this case though I’m just documenting.

    Phillip Island MotoGP

I went to the MotoGP last weekend and it was fantastic. Beautiful day, great result, and I got a few pictures too.
So far I just have photos from the digital camera on the day of the race. But soon I’ll get some film developed with photos I took in Melbourne, and am looking forward to those.

I had probably the worst lens for the day, a slow f/4 zoom however it was better than nothing! Here are some pics…

Danny Pedrosa (who was on pole position for the race) dropped the bike on the practice lap right in front of us.. It was hilarious, he wasn’t actually moving much at the time, he was accelerating from a stop and fell off the back off the bike. Not his finest moment.

    Some support Races etc.

Then we had these guys.. So damn impressive.

    The Podium.. Stoner, Capirossi, Rossi.

    BEFORE

    AFTER

Rossi is still a crowd favourite.

The long walk back on the track.

    Way to Work

Haven’t had much time to post anything up lately, but here are some pics I took travelling to and from work one day in Sydney. Taken from the car with my point and shoot digital camera, they aren’t that amazing and don’t have much aesthetically interesting going on, but I intend to develop this concept at a later. Basically just to make my daily commute slightly less mundane!

    Fake Model Photography

Was playing around with an effect I saw on a forum. It’s meant to make things look like they’re miniature models. I assume it’s attempting to replicate a tilt-shift effect.

Nothing ground breaking, but it was a fun gimmick to try out on some old travel pics and I think these two examples actually worked out quite well.

    “Super Command Rescue Team”

I was just looking through more travel photos and found some of the more “random” ones we took. If you’ve travelled around Asia you would of noticed quite a few examples of engrish in many places you looked. Signs displaying names such as “Golden Californian BBQ Beef Noodle House” and “Super Star Magic Paperclips and Hair Brushes” are fairly common. Below is a small selection of the randomness we saw on our trip.

Thought we could start off with some simple spelling mistakes:

“Godzira”, the smaller pinker cousin of Godzilla?

    So cliche

everything was pretty normal.. until the last line..

    awww.. only half?

and what the hell is this meant to be?

oh ok, it all makes sense now

this makes heaps of sense too

I want to be one of these guys when I grow up 🙂
